The Garcia House by John Lautner

The Garcia House by John Lautner, which was made popular in the movie Lethal Weapon is now on the market for a cool $16,000,000.00. I used to love architecture and learned all about this house after seeing it in the movie. The House is a modernist residence located in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, California. The house is built into the steep hillside and consists of three levels.

Average Age of Building in New York City

Understanding the average age of buildings in a given area can be important for a variety of reasons. Here are a few examples:

Infrastructure and maintenance: Older buildings may require more maintenance and repair, which can be costly for property owners and potentially affect the overall quality of life in the area. Knowing the average age of buildings can help planners and policymakers understand the potential infrastructure needs of a community and allocate resources accordingly.

Crime Rates in Philadelphia 2017 Verse 2022

Crime rates are going up in Philadelphia. It is true. The numbers are big too. For the entire year of 2021 there were 135,114 crimes reported in Philadelphia compared to the 203,432 that have already been reported as of Oct 24, 2022.

While the statement “Crime rates are going up in Philadelphia.” is true, the statement itself is very broad. For instance, Philadelphia is comprised of 157 neighborhoods. Are crime rates rising equally across all neighborhoods?

A quick look at gentrification in Philadelphia

I simply wanted to look at the number of buildings in an area and the rate of demolition and new development by neighborhood over time to see what areas of Philadelphia were being developed. This process obviously would not be a perfect local measure, nor would it measure all aspects of the gentrification process, but I thought it would be a fun project.

Working on my QGIS Skills

I created this map to show my understanding of the Clip, Buffer, and Difference vector tools as well as the MMQGIS plug in used to generate the distances in the legend, and the print layout functionality all within QGIS.  The map shows what restaurants fall within a .5 mile to 2 mile radius of the neighborhood I live in.

Ending the Ago Old Question - Which Course Is Best For All Of Us?

I golf with many people but I have my regular foursome. When we started golfing we all live relatively close to one another. Over the years jobs and family has made us move farther apart. We still try to get together regularly though but when we do the question always becomes, “Which course are we going to play at?” Once a course name is thrown out the inevitable next response is that is SO FAR for me. This has driven me to narrow down the courses that work best for all of us. And they are pictured below.

Central Bucks Elementary School District Rankings

I had to produce a map for my QGIS Certification and decided to create one ranking the elementary schools in our area. Since all of the schools in our area have a similar overall Niche Ranking I had to find something else to differentiate them and decided to compare them on their combine Math and Reading proficiency scores. This is the map I ended up with for 2022.

US 2020 Election

I produced these for my QGIS Certification. I created this map because I dislike the political extremism that is happening in this country right now. I had noticed that every map I saw during the 2020 election was either ALL RED or ALL BLUE which is a false way to report the data. States, like people, can fall in the middle and not be an extreme. This map is supposed to depict that.
