Porcelain and Gold Eyes
Porcelain is a type of ceramic material made from a combination of kaolin clay and feldspar. It has a glossy, white, glass-like appearance and is very strong and durable. It is typically translucent and can have a subtle blue or gray tint. Porcelain is also highly resistant to stains and is non-porous, making it ideal for use in the kitchen and bathroom. Porcelain is also highly heat-resistant and can even be used in the oven. Finally, porcelain has a smooth and even surface that can be glazed for a glossy finish.
The idea of mixing the Porcelain with gold came from some pottery I had scene at an art display in San Antonio. It was called Kintsugi: The Art of Precious Scars is a Japanese art form that uses gold, silver, and other metals to repair broken or cracked pottery. The philosophy behind Kintsugi is to celebrate the cracks and flaws in an object, as a reminder of its unique history and story. By giving the broken pieces a new life, the piece is transformed into something even more beautiful, highlighting the imperfection and making it truly one-of-a-kind. Kintsugi is a reminder to embrace our flaws and imperfections, and to celebrate the beauty that comes from embracing our scars.
I thought it would be interesting to try to bring the two materials together in these eye images.
